Private campsites & glamping in Sedalia, CO

Sedalia is a historic ranching town on the edge of the Rampart Range, 30 minutes south of Denver - close enough for dinner in the city, far enough for dark skies and 26,000 acres of Pike National Forest at the doorstep. It's the gateway to Deckers, the South Platte's gold-medal trout water, and the Rampart Range Road OHV network.

The town itself is small - a few restaurants, a historic district, antique shops - and most visitors are here for what's around it: dude ranches, the Devil's Head fire lookout hike, and Jackson Creek's OHV trails. It's an easy, affordable alternative to the I-70 corridor.

Camping in Sedalia: FAQs

Is Sedalia a good Denver alternative?

Yes - you're 30-40 minutes from downtown Denver but in genuine ranch country, with lodging that typically costs less than the mountain resort towns.

Can I fish near Sedalia?

The South Platte through Deckers, 20 minutes west, is famous Cheesman Canyon water - technical, beautiful, catch-and-release in stretches. A Colorado license is required.

What's the Devil's Head hike?

A 2.8-mile round-trip climb to the last operating fire lookout on the Front Range, with 360-degree views. The final staircase is not for the acrophobic.

Is Rampart Range Road suitable for beginners?

Parts are, but much of it is serious 4WD/OHV terrain. Check the Motor Vehicle Use Map and go with someone experienced your first time.

Best season?

May-October for full access. Winter is mild by mountain standards, but forest roads close with snow.
