Private campsites & glamping in North Carolina

North Carolina is one of the best glamping states in the East, and it isn't close. The private stays here span geodesic domes on Blue Ridge ridgelines, safari tents beside Smoky Mountain creeks, treehouses over trout rivers, and — on Hatteras Island — canvas glamping tents steps from the Atlantic. With 20 verified listings across six regions, GlampAtlas covers the full arc: mountain luxury near Asheville, waterfall country around Brevard, and High Country cool above Boone.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are the engine of NC glamping. Asheville anchors it all: within 30 minutes you can sleep in a transparent-roof dome in Blowing Rock, a yurt on Goldview Knob, an A-frame on the French Broad, or a safari tent in Swannanoa. The Blue Ridge Parkway threads the whole region together — Craggy Gardens, Mount Mitchell, and Grandfather Mountain make easy day trips from nearly every listing, and fall color season (mid-October) books out months ahead.

West of Asheville, the Great Smoky Mountains take over. Bryson City is the Smokies' glamping capital, with Sky Ridge Yurts, Elk Hollow Resort, and Wildwater's Yurt Village all within minutes of Deep Creek's waterfalls and the national park. The Nantahala Gorge adds whitewater rafting and the region's first canopy zipline, while Robbinsville's treehouses sit on the Cheoah River near the Tail of the Dragon. Expect darker skies, bigger water, and wilder country than the Asheville side.

Then there's the coast. The Outer Banks is a different kind of glamping entirely — oceanfront canvas tents and deluxe cabins on Hatteras Island, where the amenity list runs to beach access, resort pools, and sound-side sunsets instead of hot tubs under the stars. Between the mountains and the sea, the Blue Ridge foothills around Mill Spring and Lake Lure offer year-round, family-friendly glamping resorts. Wherever you land, book early for fall and plan around mountain weather — layers, always.
