Catskills · New York
Windham is the northern Catskills' ski town — Windham Mountain's slopes define the winter calendar, and the town has grown around them into a genuine four-season base: a main street with outfitters and breakfast spots, the Batavia Kill running through it, and trailheads into the Blackhead range ten minutes out. It's two and a half hours from the city and feels a world past the weekend-crowd towns to the south.
The glamping anchor is a design hotel on Route 23 built from cabins, canvas, and considered minimalism — part boutique hotel, part camp, entirely of the mountains. Summer brings the Windham Path, the bike park, and swimming holes; fall brings the foliage crowds; winter brings the slopes. Book ski weekends early; summer midweek is the value play.

About 130 miles, roughly 2.5 hours via the Thruway and Route 23.
Very — it's known for wide groomers and a strong ski school. Experts head to the steeps off the summit; everyone else laps the front face.
A 1.5-mile flat walking and biking path along the Batavia Kill — the town's front porch, and the easiest outdoor hour you'll spend here.
Fall — the northern Catskills peak a week before the southern towns, and the crowds thin fast after Columbus Day. Summer swimming holes are the runner-up.
The cabin-and-canvas design hotels do — heated units, fire pits, and ski-shuttle proximity. Pure canvas operations are mostly May-October.
It's now Windham Mountain Club after a 2023 rebrand and private-membership pivot — day tickets still exist but book ahead; Ikon Pass holders get days here.
